Description
20,000Advertising my Savannah MXP 740 for sale because I ve taken the notion to try my hand at tail draggers. CDSH has been in my ownership since 2021.
Airframe 711 hours but increasing
Engine Jab 2200A Hydraulic 146 hours, ditto
This aircraft is in great overall condition, passing its Permit inspections without trouble each year (though there re always one or two niggles this year s now dealt with). Permit to end of April 2026.
CDSH is a rugged and forgiving plane with a wide performance envelope, great for bumbling about visiting local strips or longer expeditions. 77 litres of tank space gives over four hours endurance and a range of 300 plus miles with reserve in hand. There s a 6 Litre warning light if you re pushing your luck, tells you when to look for a precautionary landing site. Happy cruise is 75 MPH burning 13-15 Litres per hour. It has excellent cross-wind take-off and landing capability and can be put down on very small patches of ground. Currently operated off a 300 x 10 metre strip but will cope with significantly less length than this, two up. The wing slots don t slow it too much in cruise but they make it very difficult to stall. This can be annoying. On a permit check flight you just have to keep trying, you get it eventually, like a little hiccup, a small stoop and then the wings are flying again.
When I bought CDSH I was a bit thoughtful about the Jabiru engine. The former owner, who had considerable Jab experience, gave me some tips as to service and maintenance which have proved good, this engine gives no trouble, sounds right and pulls well. Perhaps it would behave poorly in the Australian outback at 40 degrees, but so would most of us. The general consensus seems to be that with the right care and attention Jabs are good for 1000 hours + before a refit, so CDSH s powerplant is a mere chicken. All fuel hoses have been replaced during my ownership.
In my care CDSH has also had a wheels and hydraulic brakes refurb, new front tyre, engine service on schedule, regular cleaning and that s about it. Not a lot seems to go wrong.
All the normal instruments, all working well, though the Rev counter is sometimes a tad vague. Electric carb heat but never any indication that it s needed, the carb is in a warm place. 8.33 radio and two headsets included in sale. There s no electronic conspicuity, no transponder, none of these are really necessary where I ve been flying, but there are 4 rather useful USB ports to add tech as you require.
Aircraft located just west of Dumfries.
