The Robin DR.200 series is a family of French light touring and training monoplanes with conventional landing gear and a single engine. Originally manufactured by Centre Est A ronautique, the company later became known as Avions Pierre Robin.
The aircraft was initially developed as the DR.200, an evolution of the earlier DR.1050M1 featuring a reinforced wing and extended fuselage. The production variant, the DR.250 Capitaine, is a four-seat model powered by a 160 hp Lycoming O-320 engine and fitted with an all-flying tailplane. The DR.250 made its maiden flight in 1965.
The collaboration between Jean Delemontez and Pierre Robin through Centre Est A ronautique, later Avions Robin is well established. The original CEA Jodel Robin design was based on Delemontez s earlier D10 concept, a four-seater whose wing had been constructed before being sidelined in favour of the D11 project. Working together, Delemontez and Robin developed a line of aircraft that included the DR100, DR200, and later the nosewheel DR300/400 series, spanning from 1957 to 1972.
The DR.100 series was succeeded by the Robin DR.200 range, which retained many design similarities. The series began with the DR.220, of which 83 units were produced in 1967. Initially equipped with a Continental O-200A engine, it was later upgraded to a 108 hp Continental O-235 and renamed the DR.221 Dauphine. This model was subsequently re-engined with a 160 hp Lycoming O-320-D2A, resulting in the DR.250 Capitaine a classic taildragger. Around 100 examples were built before the design was further developed into the DR.253 Regent, featuring a larger fuselage, tricycle undercarriage, and a 180 hp Lycoming O-360-D2A engine.
G-BJBO benefits from low engine and propeller hours, with both having been zero-timed following overhaul in 2022.
With a useful payload of 327 kg and a fuel capacity of 200 litres, the aircraft offers approximately 5.5 hours of endurance plus an additional hour s reserve, making BO an excellent choice for touring at a comfortable cruising speed of 115 knots.
