Description

For sale, a rare and beautifully presented historic early Stearman PT17A with pre-war and wartime US military training history. Finished in the distinctive blue and yellow colours of aircraft 466 , G-PTBA combines classic open-cockpit warbird flying with the character of a Lycoming R-680-17 radial engine.

Extensively restored in 2010 by Vintage Fabrics, one of the UK s leading vintage aircraft restoration specialists, G-PTBA benefits from a UK Certificate of Airworthiness, a July 2026 annual inspection and a National Airworthiness Review Certificate valid until 29 July 2027. An opportunity to own a stunning example of one of aviation s most recognisable biplanes.

History:

Built in 1937, serial number 75045 was delivered from Boeing s Wichita factory in October that year and assigned to Randolph Field, Texas, carrying identification number 466.

Its subsequent training career included assignments to the Curtiss-Reynolds operation in Illinois, Spartan School of Aeronautics in Oklahoma, and training establishments at Hemet, Sequoia and Hancock Fields in California. Later postings took the aircraft to Napier Field, Alabama, and Bush Field, Georgia.

Released from military service in July 1945, it subsequently entered civilian ownership as N60658, becoming N731 in 1953. It joined the UK register as G-PTBA in 2016
